La Zagaleta: The most prestigious resort in Reurope
La Zagaleta is not only considered the most exclusive area in Spain, but in the whole of Europe.
With key differential values such as privacy and discretion, we are talking about a place that hides more than it seems. Not much is even known about the owners of the more than 200 villas in La Zagaleta, apart from a few isolated facts.
Do you want to know everything about this place? We encourage you to read on.
What is La Zagaleta?
La Zagaleta is a privileged location that was founded in 1991. It occupies an extensive area of more than 900 hectares and is set in the middle of the Mediterranean forest. From here you can enjoy incredible views towards Gibraltar and the coast of Africa.
Formerly a huge private hunting ground belonging to Adnan Khashoggi, the land was auctioned off in 1989 and it was then that a holding company of investors from Spain, North America, Switzerland and Germany decided to make the investment.
Today it is a residential model where you can find unique amenities such as a sports club, 2 golf courses, private lake, equestrian centre and heliport.
It is considered a true paradise on earth, to the point that exorbitant sums of money are paid to live there. For example, it is known that some properties have been sold for as much as 25 million euros, and some can be more than 10,000 square metres in size.
As a point of interest, the membership fee for the golf and equestrian clubs is around 90,000 euros plus 10,000 euros per year. This price is justified due to the large number of services offered there.
What is the profile of residents of La Zagaleta?
The majority of La Zagaleta’s residents are very successful people, such as senior company executives, who are looking for a place where their privacy is respected to the maximum.
According to the statistics, around 30% of the residents are German, another 30% from the UK and another 30% from different Northern European countries. The remaining 10% include Arabs, spanish and people of different nationalities.
But what really matters to the residents of La Zagaleta is privacy. This is how fully personalised services are offered, with all the guarantees that this information will not be made public.
Interestingly, the economic crisis has not affected this place. In fact, the plots have increased in value by around 300% in the last 5 years. Currently villas in La Zagaleta can be found for between 10.5 and 14.5 million euros.
However, they are not built, but are part of an ambitious construction project that will take around 10 years per house to be fully built.
Which potential celebrities could live there?
As we can imagine, there are many celebrities currently living in La Zagaleta, although nothing can be confirmed.
Recently there have been rumours circulating that Vladimir Putin himself lives there, due to the acronym V.P. being linked to one of the properties. However, all indications are that it could be Valery Ponomarev, the successful musician.
There are also rumours that place Brad Pitt, Shakira, Lady Gaga or Beckham there, and there are even some celebrities who have not been admitted to the area, as is the case of Julio Iglesias.
However, there are celebrities who have acknowledged that they live there, such as Lord StanleyFink, Hans Snook or Jürgen Bartels.
Which are the most famous villas in La Zagaleta?
Whichever villa we are talking about in La Zagaleta, you can be sure that it is an impressive place.
However, there are some that stand out above the rest, and best of all, they may be for sale right now. If you have the money, it would be a great place to live.
La Quinta de los Olivos
La Quinta de los Olivos is a magnificent villa situated in an enviable location, with an extension of 6000 square metres.
Casa Radclyffe
We cannot forget Casa Radclyffe, a colonial style villa with southwest orientation and a plot of 7293 square metres.
Villa Genève
Another interesting option is Villa Genève, a south facing villa with views of the golf club and the urbanisation. It is located on a plot of more than 3200 square metres.
Casa del Sol
We also highlight the Casa del Sol, an Andalusian style villa that is perfect as a family home or as a property for a well-deserved holiday.
In short, La Zagaleta is a magical place to live and have the quality of life we have always wanted, at a price far beyond what most of us can afford.
